January 5, 2010
Coquille STEP Board meeting of January 5, 2010 was called to order at 6 p.m.
Board Members in attendance were: Steve Pennington, Toby Hatzenpillar, Willie Shorb, Larry Richey, Paul Merz, John Peatross, Phillip Wolcott and Rich Fish.
Larry Richey asked that the Board approve the office positions for the year 2010. Willie Shorb made the motion, seconded by Larry Richey that we approve the Officers, President Steve Pennington, Vice-President Willie Shorb, Treasurer, Toby Hatzenpillar, Secretary Rich Fish, for the year of 2010. The motion passed unanimously. Meeting then was moved to the Coquille HS.
General Meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. After a brief tour of the facilities, Steve asked Gary about hatching Steelhead eggs at this time in the facility. Paul brought up various things to consider and in general Gary agreed that it could be done. It appears that the water quality or lack of quality is a major stumbling point. Also discussed were whether or not Cunningham creek could be used as an acclimation site as well. Various creeks that flow into Cunningham were also discussed. No decision was reached at this time.
The members then walked to the Classroom for the Natural Sciences where Steve asked Gary to reply to his questions regarding the studies that have been done on the Coquille River system. Gary indicated that most of the data that ODFW has is in stacks on shelves. Generally nothing is being done with this data was what Gary stated. He spent a significant amount of time compiling his report and felt that it was not as complete as he would like it to be, but he wanted to respond to the STEP request for feedback on the research.
These minutes are sketchy as there were a number of questions and interruptions of Gary’s presentation regarding the data.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
