The Coquille STEP Board meeting of March 3, 2010 was called to order at 6:30PM. Board Members in attendance were: Steve Pennington, Toby Hatzenpillar, Willie Shorb, Larry Richey and Rich Fish.
President Steve Pennington called the meeting to order. Steve asked for input from the board members regarding what they would like to bring up for discussion during the general meeting.
Steve then proceeded to discuss his idea of an internet web page and how it might help to keep this organization alive.
General Meeting was called to order at 7:00PM.
Members present besides board members were Frank Watkins, Leo Granmontgne, Don Geisler, Sid Marley, Gary Vonderohe ODFW and Bob Taylor.
Steve introduced Eric Himmerlreich, of ODFW and Robert Jump. Eric discussed the various testing that he is involved in on the Coquille river system. His objective is to find out what are the various causes of e-coli in the streams without getting into enforcement issues. He trys to correct problems before they get to the DEQ level where enforcement occurs. He is planning on testing the water up in the forest land prior to any farming/cattle incursion into the streams. His idea is to test various areas to see how the different environments affect the water quality.
Robert was asked to discuss the development of a web site for STEP. He stated that we have a great opportunity to promote our organization and our area to the public. We will be able to track the public’s access to our information so that we can determine what is being accessed. Robert needs mostly pictures and then next articles. He would like to design the page with two columns, a narrow one on the left side and a wide one on the right side. There needs to be a number (20) of key words so that people can find our articles amongst the many other articles. The wide side will be changing as articles come along however the articles will be filed within the site. The narrow side will primarily contain general information regarding the organization and it’s ongoing activities.
Rich Fish made a motion to contract with Robert Jump to develop a web site based upon the parameters he discussed at tonight’s meeting. Larry Richey seconded the motion. Steve asked for a vote and the motion passed unanimously. Next Steve asked for each member to begin rounding up pictures that can be submitted to Robert. Minutes of the February meeting were read, corrections made and report approved with corrections. Treasurer’s report was presented for 1/5/2010. Steve wants each of us to write something on the web site regarding fishing in this area, historical or current issues. Web page address is: www.coquilleriverstep.org.
