Bob Taylor
In 1960 the tributaries of the Coquille were filled with log jams. A Coquille Chamber of Commerce Committee of Jack Bower, Ed Throckmorton and I got the Oregon Legislature to spend $20,000 to clean up the Coquille River. Game Commission sent Woody Hilderman to start the massive project with heavy equipment, where they pulled the debris and logs out of the Coquille system. Good logs they sold and debris was stacked and burnt with a wind machine even in the dead of winter.
We also where able to get funds to build a fish ladder over Middle Creek Falls, that opened up 12 to 14 miles for salmon and steelhead to spawn. Unfortunately from this project laws were passed for loggers to clean out debris in the streams and they over done it. Now we are putting it back in our streams. By Bob Taylor 2010

Bob Taylor’s Worked Praised
Bob Taylor’s work as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce fish and game committee in cleaning debris from the Coquille River last year gained the Chamber’s highest praise at a recent meeting of the board of directors. Taylor’s leadership has given the Coquille Valley a clean river and has focused the attention of the entire state on river clearance programs patterned on Coos County’s. Taylor’s committee coordinated the activities of state agencies, the county, city, and the forest industry in getting the job done. Jack Bowen, an active member of Taylor’s committee, this year takes over the leadership of river clearance. He has emphasized that clearing the river is a continuing project.
